Photo Guidelines – Adults & Children Over 1 Year
When taking your photo, please follow these guidelines:
Clothing: Avoid white tops. Choose plain, medium to dark colours.
Glasses: Glasses are not permitted unless medically required.
Face Visibility: Entire face must be visible (forehead to chin).
Hair Accessories: Avoid clips, bands, or decorative items.
Head Coverings: Religious head coverings are allowed if the face is fully visible.
Skin: Avoid shiny or reflective creams.
Neck Area: No scarves, hoods, or clothing covering the neck.
Tips for Taking the Photo Yourself
Stand at least 1.5 metres away from the camera
Use a plain, light-coloured background
Take the photo in natural daylight where possible
Ensure even lighting with no harsh shadows
We recommend uploading at least 5 photos for best results
Newborns & Children Under 1 Year – Guidelines
Eyes Open: Not required for Irish passport applications
Clothing: Avoid white clothing
Comfort: Ensure the baby is fed and relaxed
Positioning: Lay the baby on a flat surface with a plain background
Lighting: Use soft natural daylight
Multiple Photos: Upload several images to increase approval chances
